I recently attended the Arabian Business Leadership Summit, where business leaders from diverse sectors gathered together to discuss challenges and opportunities in the region and globally.
One thing was very clear across the room: the landscape of leadership has certainly undergone a seismic shift. As CEOs, we find ourselves navigating uncharted territory, facing challenges that not only test our business acumen but also demand a deeper sense of responsibility and purpose. In this new era, traditional models of leadership no longer fit; we must rise to the occasion with innovation, empathy, and unwavering resolve.
Before we begin with business strategy, laying any plans or projecting financial revenues, we must think bigger and faster than ever before. The pace of change has accelerated exponentially, requiring us to adapt with agility and foresight. No longer can we afford to be complacent or reactionary; instead, we must anticipate trends, seize opportunities, and chart a bold course forward.
Today a leader has to be agile and adaptable to sudden and unforeseen circumstances. Post-pandemic and tech advancements in today’s era means that being agile is one of the most important leadership skills. In this hyper-competitive business environment, geo-political conditions, climate change and so many other factors, being able to pivot and make quick decisions and adapting to new circumstances is what is expected from effective leaders of today.
At the same time it is equally important is the need to deliberately choose ‘how I show up’ in every interaction and decision. Our actions as leaders sets the tone for our organisations, influencing culture, morale, and ultimately, performance. By embodying authenticity, empathy, and integrity, we can inspire trust and foster a sense of unity and a strong sense of purpose among our teams.
Moreover, we must fully embrace stakeholder capitalism, recognizing that our responsibilities extend far beyond shareholders to encompass employees, customers, communities, and the environment. By prioritizing the long-term well-being of all stakeholders, we not only enhance our company’s resilience and reputation but also contribute to a more sustainable and equitable future for all.
Above all, at the heart of effective leadership lies a clear sense of values and beliefs. In this tumultuous environment, it is more important than ever to decide what we truly stand for and align our actions accordingly. By staying true to our convictions and principles, we can navigate uncertainty with confidence and integrity.

One of my ultimate leadership must-do’s is investing further in building my relationships with other CEOs. Therefore, Arabian Business Leadership Summit was the perfect opportunity to interact with business leaders from the region. Collaboration, rather than competition, is key to tackling the complex challenges we face. By forging alliances and sharing insights and best practices, we can amplify our impact and drive meaningful change on a global scale.
Lastly, we must leverage networks to tackle a broad set of issues, recognizing that no single organisation or individual can solve the world’s most pressing problems alone. By harnessing the collective expertise, resources, and influence of our networks, we can address systemic issues such as climate change, inequality, and public health with greater efficacy and efficiency.
Leadership, as I see it, in this new era demands vision, courage, and collaboration. It’s a process of self-development where we are constantly learning from our experiences in the face of adversity and from around us as well. Ultimately it is about being true to who you are while exploring unchartered territories, cultivating creativity and being able to break down complex problems.
We can navigate the challenges of today and build a brighter tomorrow for generations to come. Together, let us rise to the occasion and lead with purpose and passion.
