The fantasy-infused nightspot isn’t known for its food, but that’s about to change

Dubai has no shortage of ‘do-it-all’ venues. Huge places that try to cater to everyone’s tastes. They are restaurants by day, clubs by night, and bar/lounges for everything in between.

The dangers of this sort of tactic are evident; by trying to please everyone you might enamour yourself to no one. And yet, these super-venues continue to rise (and fall) on Dubai’s social scene year-on-year.

The latest to throw its sparkly hat into the culinary ring is Vii Terrace Bar and Lounge. Sat adjacent to Vii Club at the Conrad Dubai, it’s more relaxed than its tub-thumping neighbour, complete with high ceilings, velvet sofas, ornate mirrors and faux foliage – all of which it styles as a ‘secret garden’. The music is good, the crowd trendy and the drinks well mixed. So far, so bar.

Precious few are aware that Vii Lounge also has an al fresco dining menu, complete with the likes of specialist sushi, twists on Arab classics and even an asparagus and mushroom risotto.

Given the eclectic food, you might think this just another token menu put on by a venue looking offer something for everyone, and in a way that’s true. However, what is most unexpected is the quality of the food on offer.

Deep fried sushi (yes, deep fried) is as impressive as it is delicious, as is the beef tenderloin sliders and spinach falafel with beetroot hummus. The eclectic menu might not be to a traditionalist’s taste, but it will certainly impress those looking for something delicious to eat before a heady night on the town.
