The most striking room at the recently opened St Regis Dubai is an unexpected shrine to Britain’s legendary wartime Prime Minister. The massive suite is bigger than the hotel’s ballroom and accessed by a private elevator.

The three-bedroom, two-story penthouse suite is tastefully decorated, complete with relics associated with Churchill, including photographs documenting seminal moments of his leadership (it even has one of his La Corona Cubano cigars).

The entire tribute was signed off by the Churchill Heritage group and has already hosted its first visitor: the great grandson of the man himself, Randolph Churchill.

Surely one of the largest suites in Dubai – and indeed the rest of the world – hallways resemble hotel corridors, and the living room is bigger than most lobbies. There’s a 12-person dining room (with its petite swimming pool) and adjacent kitchenette for entertaining guests, while upstairs features a recreational area with bar, another plunge pool, and two terraces.

 

Butler service comes as standard, as does a signature spa treatment and dining credit to any of the hotel’s restaurants.

Grand but formal, the St. Regis Dubai wants to be one of the emirate’s more elegant properties. Its French-style Brasserie Quarter restaurant is an excellent spot for brunch or buffet-style breakfasts, while J&G Steakhouse serves exceptionally sophisticated American fare. The Iridium Spa is also impressive, with separate male and female hammams, saunas and relaxation areas.

Though the surrounding Al Habtoor City is still under development, when it’s complete in 2017 it will feature many restaurants, cafes and bars, alongside a theatre that will host grand Las Vegas-style performances by Franco Dragone Entertainment Group.
