Audi taking the fight to Tesla with its own electric Sedan

The Audi’s chief executive has given the go-ahead for an all-electric luxury sedan

Audi is getting serious about electric cars. The car, which may or may not be the upcoming A9 e-tron, will have three electric motors, with a range of more than 300 miles per charge. It will also feature level four autonomous driving.

This comes from a report from Autocar, in which Audie’s Chairman and CEO Rupert Stadler confirmed that Audi will have three fully electric vehicles by 2020. By 2025, it hopes that 25 percent of all the cars it sells will have batteries.

Off the back of last year’s Frankfurt Motor Show, Audi committed to building an all-electric SUV. The e-tron Quattro concept will begin production in 2018.

Stadler confirmed that the production version of the e-Tron Quattro will go from 0 to 100kph in just 4.2 seconds, with a top speed of 131 miles per hour.

One of the Quattro’s most impressive functions is inductive charging – allowing users to re-charge the vehicle simply by parking it over a charging plate (instead of having to plug it in like traditional e-motors).

Audi isn’t the only carmaker getting in on the electric game. Porsche – sister company to Audi – plans to roll out production of the Mission E, it’s all-electric concept car. While Mercedes-Benz, Aston Martin, and Volvo have all pledged to have their electric vehicles ready by 2020.
