5-Minute Interview

How do you describe yourself?

As a leader, a critical thinker, a planner, a driver.

What do others say about you?

I think people recognize the hard work and commitment that I put in to my work in addition to the genuine concern I have for those around me.

What’s your greatest achievement in life?

First, my family. This is followed by receiving an Honorary Doctorate from Middlesex University for my contribution to business, corporate governance and women’s empowerment and the equivalent of an MBE from the Government of Mauritius for services to corporate governance.

Your greatest achievement in business?

Running my own successful business which was all about helping others set up their businesses; and then turning businesses around, creating jobs for highly talented people.

What is the single largest problem facing your industry today?

As a not-for-profit organization, naturally, our main challenge is sustainable funding. On an industry level, more efforts are needed in the region to clearly define the role of the Board in corporate governance.

What is something most people don’t know about you?

There are two things I need in my life – sunshine (for energy and optimism) and water, preferably the ocean (for calm and destressing). This makes Dubai a perfect home for me!

What do you think are the most important attributes of successful people?

It takes a lot to be successful in today’s challenging business environment. Some of the most important characteristics to have are leadership, a clear vision, great communication skills, integrity, commitment, and the ability to make tough but necessary decisions.

What’s one productivity tip you wish everyone else knew?

The Pareto Principle.  We should always try working smarter rather than working harder.

What makes you get out of bed each day?

Every day is a new beginning to make a positive difference

Quote to live your life by?

Success isn’t about how much money you make; it is about the difference you make in people’s lives
