CEO: Evolving the aesthetics industry
CEO: Evolving the aesthetics industry

What’s the story behind your business?

My family were in the medical supplies business and I learned a lot from them. But by the late 1990s I could see potential in medical aesthetics equipment. So in 1999, I founded Medica Group, Medico-Aesthetic agents and consultants of Beauty Solutions. We are the largest supplier of medical aesthetics equipment in the region.

What’s the single biggest challenge facing your industry today?

Our biggest challenge is the lack of education about our industry and consumers not understanding if their practitioner is qualified. It’s all about appropriate training, but often the consumer looks for the cheapest or most advertised clinic or product. We work on tackling that through integrated training and educational programs, as well as consultancy for business practices, marketing, aftersales and maintenance services for our partners.

Where do great ideas come from in your organisation?

We do strategy sessions and we encourage everyone to come up with ideas. Our culture embraces ideas from everyone.  I have taken ideas that came from drivers that have changed the way we deal with customers. That is my advice to new leaders, listen more than you speak.

What do you enjoy the most about working at your company?

I see where this industry is going, with advancements in products and technology and to be at the cutting edge of that, I love it.

What is the most important decision you’ve had to make for your company?

To bring in investors in order to scale up rapidly as finding the right partner is essential. The partnership with Gulf Capital supported their strategy of investing in fast-growing industries while allowing Medica to grow its footprint organically and via acquisitions. Gulf Capital brought experience while Medica is positioned to play a key role regionally and across emerging markets.

What’s your most prized possession and how do you find time for family?

I don’t prize possessions particularly, but I prize relationships. My friends, colleagues and business partners are important, but my most prized relationships are with my family, they mean the world to me.

Do you have any rituals that help prepare you for the day?

I pray and meditate every day. Prayer helps me to clear my mind and keep calm. I’m a believer in the power of prayer, I always start my day with prayer.

Quote to live your life by?

I like what Einstein said, “Try not to become a man of success, but rather to become a man of value.”

If you could give an old boss one piece of advice, what would it be?

He should have been harder on me.

Finish this sentence, “the world would be a better place if only…”

People would be content.
