My team at OWS Capital and myself all have a big passion for health and wellness, so much so that we created a health and fitness brand, Platform Fitness (go check us out), we’re all inspired by the ever-evolving landscape of the fitness industry. In an era of rapid technological advancements and shifting consumer expectations, it is essential for me and my team to stay ahead of the curve.

Therefore, my personal interest in the fitness industry has soared over the years and I am always on the look-out for new developments in this space. Here’s what’s going on in health and fitness that would interest both a consumer and a any business leader who may want to venture into this industry.

Wearable fitness

With advancements in wearable devices, sensors, and artificial intelligence, fitness professionals can collect and analyse valuable data to create customised workout routines, nutritional plans, and recovery strategies. This personalised approach ensures that individuals achieve their goals efficiently and sustainably because what is right for me will not be the right thing for my neighbour, we all have very specific needs.

Virtual fitness

The rise of virtual fitness platforms and on-demand workouts has revolutionised the industry. Offering convenience, flexibility, and a wide range of options, virtual fitness allows people to exercise anytime and anywhere. Whether it’s live-streamed classes, pre-recorded workouts, or personalised training sessions through digital platforms, the future of fitness embraces accessibility and inclusivity.

Smart technology: The integration of fitness equipment with smart technology and interconnected devices is creating a connected fitness ecosystem. From smart gym equipment to fitness trackers, these devices seamlessly track and sync data, providing real-time feedback and insights to users. This connectedness allows for a holistic approach to fitness, enabling individuals to monitor progress, set goals, and receive personalised recommendations for improved performance.

Gamification

In my humble opinion, engagement is also a key to sustaining long-term fitness habits, and gamification has emerged as a powerful tool in achieving this. By incorporating fun, game-like elements, challenges, and rewards, fitness apps, and platforms can motivate us to stay active and reach our targets. Furthermore, social engagement through online communities, challenges, and sharing achievements fosters a sense of belonging and encourages healthy competition, making fitness more enjoyable and motivating. Challenge your sibling or best friend and just watch how competitive you get.

AI in fitness

Another fantastic technology we need to talk about is how Artificial Intelligence and machine learning are transforming the fitness industry by unlocking new insights and optimising training methodologies. AI-powered coaching bots and virtual trainers can provide personalised feedback, correct form, and suggest modifications, enhancing the effectiveness and safety of workouts.

We have also tried to implement virtual and augmented reality technologies at Platform Fitness as well. VR workouts transport individuals to immersive environments, making exercise more engaging and enjoyable. AR overlays digital elements in the real world, offering interactive guidance and enhancing workout experiences.

However, the future of fitness goes beyond physical well-being and we have to acknowledge the importance of mental and emotional health. Fitness programmes are integrating mindfulness practices, stress reduction techniques, and meditation to promote holistic wellness. This integration addresses the growing demand for comprehensive approaches to health, enabling individuals to find balance and achieve overall well-being.

Collaborations between fitness companies and health tech providers are also on the rise, and rightly so. These partnerships leverage medical-grade technologies, such as biosensors and remote patient monitoring devices, to bridge the gap between fitness and healthcare. By capturing accurate health data, fitness professionals and medical practitioners can work together to create personalised plans that elevate fitness outcomes while considering individual health conditions and needs.

The future of the fitness industry is vibrant and transformative

I really like that sustainability has become a global priority, and the fitness industry is embracing environmentally friendly practices. From eco-friendly gym equipment and energy-efficient facilities to sustainable workout apparel and eco-conscious programming, the industry is aligning with the values of conscious consumers. Embracing sustainable fitness practices not only reduces the industry’s carbon footprint but also inspires individuals to make eco-conscious choices in their fitness journeys.

The future of the fitness industry is vibrant and transformative. By embracing emerging trends and leveraging technology, fitness professionals and entrepreneurs like myself and my team can cater to the evolving needs of consumers.

Personalisation, virtual experiences, connectivity, gamification, AI, and sustainability are key pillars driving this transformation. As a young entrepreneur, along with OWS Capital colleagues, we are excited to be part of this dynamic industry, where innovation and wellness intersect, creating opportunities for a healthier and happier future.
